Day //2 // of a 30-day personal publishing challenge on Identity.
“Let us make man in our image.”
These were the words God spoke in the beginning.
Do you know the kinds of words that show up when you type ‘likeness’ into a thesaurus search?
This is what being made in the image of God means — we are a physical representation of who and what he is.
Everything good and beautiful, everything admirable, everything awe-inspiring that we see in humanity, is a portrait of the Maker.
People are passionate. People are powerful. People are brilliant, breath-taking, beautiful. People are these things because they are made in the image of God.
And the bad stuff? The ugly or horrible or broken parts of humankind? Those are the things that mask the image.
We’re born with the mess, or we have it done to us, or we get sucked into it…and this is why Jesus matters.
He is the one who can fix the brokenness, heal the horrible, and oust the ugliness.
Finding our identity first in being an image-bearer shifts so much away from what we do, and focuses first on who. we. are.
Choosing this starting point is a highway towards hope.
