a /five minute friday/ entry

This post is part of the weekly Five Minute Friday link up.

I was supposed to free write on the prompt word for five minutes, then publish.

Friend…such a thing was impossible, at least for today. I’ve always been an “edit as I go” kind of writer, which, admittedly, is not best practice.

Frank Viola says “write like a drunk, edit like a surgeon.” My effort today resembled more the work of the toy restoration artist in Toy Story 2: slow, painstaking, and irritating for anyone watching.

It’s okay — I’ll get better. Life would be boring if there wasn’t anything to improve.

Once is a word that fills me with anxiety.

It speaks to me of scarcity, of missed opportunity, or an irretrievable past. How things “used to be.”

It’s uncomfortable.

Redemption of a definition is always possible.

Renewal of my mind is always the desire and gentle specialty of my Father.

Once *can* mean

a lesson internalized

a comforting memory

beautiful progress

task checked off.

I write for pew-weary Jesus people. Here’s your invitation to embrace + experience your truest identity as God’s beloved. There’s always room for you.

Inviting pew-weary Jesus people to embrace + experience their truest identity as beloved through subversive spiritual disciplines. Hope*Writer. Creative mentor.
